Activities Inspired by Katie Toppel
These are some activities that have either been inspired by Katie Toppel or specifically recommended by her.
Katie Toppel Articles & Resources
Katie Toppel is the go-to person for book recommendations as well as wonderful classroom teaching tips for younger learners. She is also proficient with using the Seesaw app with her students.
She and Tan Huynh run a book club together on Twitter and on one of Katie's blogs EllChat_BKClub. They start wonderful discussions about best practices when teaching English learners. If you do not follow them yet, they are a joy to interact with.
Katie also posts lots of helpful ideas on how to use the Seesaw app which is one of my favorite ed-tech apps.
On her other blog Sneaker Teacher, you can find some great tips and inspiration. Katie discusses activities that she has done with her students and provides lots of pictures to illustrate.
You'll also want to check out this wonderful article called Games for Growing Language on the Seidlitz blog from Katie on using games in the classroom, another one of my favorite topics.
Katie Toppel's Story
Katie has an Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction and has taught in a variety of roles, including first grade and special education at an international school in Germany.
She currently co-teaches in kindergarten and first grade.
She loves to read. She probably reads more books in a year than I have read in my lifetime. She continues to help other teachers with their professional development by hosting a book club on Twitter.
"I am just a girl on a mission to be the best teacher I can be." - Katie Toppel
